Indications

Apoquel is an allergy medicine for use in dogs only to treat allergic dermatitis and help control atopic dermatitis.

Oclacitinib is a synthetic Janus Kinase inhibitor that targets cytokines responsible for allergic reactions, inflammation, and pruritus in canines. By controlling and reducing the activity of these enzymes, Apoquel helps improve allergic skin diseases in dogs.

This canine allergy medication is generally well-tolerated and improves allergic skin conditions in dogs such as allergic and atopic dermatitis.

Uses and Dosage

The dose of Apoquel prescribed will vary depending on the size of your dog and the severity of their allergic condition. Follow all of your veterinarian’s instructions and read packaging labels carefully.

  • Give with or without food
  • Administer Apoquel tablets twice daily for up to 14 days
  • Administer once daily after 14 weeks for maintenance
  • Most dogs are administered 0.18 to 0.27mg per pound
  • Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat
  • Keep out of reach from children and animals

Cautions

Apoquel is not designed for humans and should be used with dogs only. Wash your hands after handling tablets. If the tablets come into contact with your eyes, flush them right away with water or saline for 15 minutes and then seek medical attention.

Apoquel is not approved for use in dogs younger than 1 year old.

Oclacitinib modulates your dog’s immune system and may leave them more susceptible to illness, including cancer. This medication may also increase vulnerability to infection such as demodicosis and may worsen neoplastic conditions.

Avoid administering this medication in dogs with serious infections because their immune defense will be compromised.

Dogs should be monitored for infections, including demodicosis and neoplasia, while taking this medication because they will be more susceptible.

Apoquel should not be used in breeding dogs as well as pregnant or lactating bitches.
