Indications

Bactrim is an antibiotic medication used to treat bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, middle ear infections, bronchitis, traveler’s diarrhea, shigellosis, and pneumonia.

This medication combines two antibiotics: sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Both active ingredients inhibit bacterial synthesis of specific acids that result in bacterial infections of the genitourinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts. Bactrim combines sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim to help reduce resistance to either antibiotic.

The dosage prescribed for this medication varies depending on the individual and the infection needing treatment.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can but do not double dose.
