Uses and Dosage

- Before first use, prime by spraying until the container produces mist
- Blow your nose before using Otrivin
- Tilt head forward slightly while using
- Inhale through your nose, pressing once to release the spray into your nostril

- Do not use more frequently than every 8 or 10 hours
- Children younger than 12 should not use Otrivin unless directed by a doctor

Serious Side Effects

Allergic Reactions
Do not use Otrivin if you are allergic to xylometazoline or any of the other listed ingredients in the nasal spray. If you develop signs of an allergic reaction, stop using this spray and contact your doctor.
Otrivin allergy symptoms may include:
- Hives
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever
- Tightness in your chest or throat
- Trouble swallowing or talking
Cautions
Avoid getting any Otrivin spray in your mouth or eyes because burning and irritation may occur.
Do not use Otrivin for longer than 3 consecutive days. Extended use of this medication could lead to further nasal congestion or worse symptoms.
Do not share Otrivin with anyone else to avoid spreading infections.
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled to have surgery, including that to remove your pituitary gland.
To ensure your safety when taking Otrivin, tell your doctor if you have any of the following:
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Narrow-angle glaucoma
- Rhinitis sicca
- Atrophic rhinitis
- Thyroid disease
- Diabetes
- Trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland
Consult with your doctor before using Otrivin if you have taken certain medications for depression or Parkinson’s disease within the last 14 days. These drugs include isocarboxazid, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, selegiline, or rasagiline. When used together, your blood pressure can rise to dangerous levels.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult with your doctor before using Otrivin to ensure the safety of you and your child.
