Description

Cloxapen is used to treat a number of bacterial infections caused by staphylococcus bacteria. Cloxapen is an antibiotic in the class of drugs called penicillin’s.

Store Cloxapen capsules at room temperature. Store the liquid form in the refrigerator. The liquid should only be used for 14 days if stored in the refrigerator. Throw away and unused liquid after 14 days.

Tell your doctor if you have certain medical conditions such as kidney disease, stomach or intestinal disease, or infectious mononucleosis before taking Cloxapen. If you have any of these conditions your doctor may not advise you to take Cloxapen because of an increased risk of side effects. Cloxapen is unlikely to harm an unborn baby, however do not take it without talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known if Cloxapen passes through breast milk. Do not take this mediation without telling your doctor if you are breast feeding a baby. Some drugs can interact and cause unwanted effects. Tell your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medications you are using.

If you have diabetes, some glucose urine tests can give you false positive results while you are using Cloxapen. Cloxapen can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. Use a second barrier method of Cloxapen to prevent pregnancy. Alcohol can irritate your stomach if you drink it with Cloxapen. Use alcohol in moderation.

Take Cloxapen as directed by your doctor. Take each dose with a glass of water on an empty stomach 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. Do not drink juice or carbonated beverages with Cloxapen. These drinks can decrease the effectiveness of Cloxapen. Cloxapen should be taken at evenly spaced gaps throughout the day in order to keep enough medicine in your blood to fight the infection at all times. Do not crush, chew, or break the Cloxapen capsules. If you are using the liquid form of Cloxapen, shake the suspension well before measuring a dose. Measure the suspension with a dose-measuring spoon or cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring spoon or cup, ask your pharmacist to supply you with one. Take all of the medicine that has been given to you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may get better before your infection is completely gone.

Do not take Cloxapen if you have ever had an allergic reaction to penicillin or to a cephalosporin.

Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction to Cloxapen such as: rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. Call your doctor if you experience any s
