The Corgard generic name is Nadolol, a non-selective beta-blocker that works by blocking a specific natural substance in the body, such as on the heart and blood vessels.

Corgard Uses

Corgard is used to treat high blood pressure, heart pain in angina patients, and atrial fibrillation. It can be used alone or be prescribed together with other medication. It can also be used to prevent migraine headaches and complications of cirrhosis. This works in these conditions by improving blood flow and decreasing blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and slowing heart rate.

Corgard reduces heart oxygen consumption at any given level of effort, making it useful for patients with angina. At the same time, it can also increase oxygen requirement by increasing left ventricular fibrous leg and end-diastolic pressure in patients with heart failure.

Corgard Beta Blocker

Beta-blockers are used to treat high blood pressure categorized into two classes, selective and non-selective. Selective beta-blockers are cardioselective; they “select” beta receptors in heart tissues and mainly in the heart area, so heart rate and systolic pressure are regulated. While non-selective beta-blockers like Corgard block beta 1, 2, and 3 address more physical performance anxiety symptoms. Aside from targeting beta receptors in the heart, they also block those in blood vessels and lungs that help slow down the breath and prevent trembling and palm sweating.

Beta-blockers prevent adrenaline from attaching to receptors to reduce physical but not psychological symptoms of adrenaline rush such as palm-sweating, pulse racing, and stomach upset, making a patient calmer.

How to Use

Corgard is available in tablet form with a strength of 20mg, 40mg, and 80mg and is taken orally once a day or as prescribed by doctors. The prescription and adjustment of dose is based on one’s medical condition and response to treatment. Regular use will help attain the most benefit of Corgard, so it should be taken at the same time daily with or without food intake. In case of missing a dose, take it as soon as remembered as long as it is not near the next intake of a dose; if it is, let it be missed for double dosing is discouraged.

This is the usual dose given to patients, but if given a different prescription from this one, do follow how it is prescribed.
