Description

What is Flovent HFA?

Flovent HFA is an inhaler that is used to treat asthma in children and adults aged four and above. When administered on a regular basis, it also helps avoid asthma symptoms, such as wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath.

Flovent HFA Dosage Forms

The aerosol is intended for inhalation.

Fluticasone propionate is administered through the mouthpiece at the following concentrations with each actuation:

  • Flovent HFA 44 mcg inhaler
  • Flovent HFA 110 mcg inhaler
  • Flovent HFA 220 mcg inhaler

Flovent HFA Usage

This fluticasone inhaler comes in an aerosol form. This device emits a mist, which you inhale via your lips into your lungs. Your doctor or pharmacist can show you ways to use an inhaler.

Read any medication guides or instruction papers that came with your prescription, and make sure you follow the directions on the label. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage.

To avoid a yeast infection, rinse your mouth with water after using this medication (do not swallow the water). Always pay attention to your oral health. Fluticasone has been linked to tooth decay and discoloration.

Flovent HFA Cautions

Avoid using this inhaler if you have an allergy to fluticasone and other inactive ingredients that the oral inhalation contains. Always watch out for signs of hypersensitivity reactions, such as skin rashes, hives or itchiness, swollen lymph nodes, swelling of the face and neck, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. Once you notice allergic reactions, call for emergency medical attention.

Inform your medical practitioner about your past medical history, especially if you have a history of any recent infections, osteoporosis, cataract, glaucoma, or liver disease. You must also discuss all the prescription medications, nonprescription medications, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you are taking. These products may interact with the active ingredients of this inhaler.

Because of the corticosteroid component of this inhaler, this product may make you more prone to infection or make symptoms of infection worse for you. Do not come in contact with people who have an infection. You should also observe good personal hygiene at all times.

This oral inhalation has been proven safe for pediatric patients who are 4 years of age or older. For geriatric patients, this drug may be prescribed, although it is necessary to note that the elderly can be more sensitive to this medication.

If you are pregnant or you think you might be pregnant, inform your doctor right away. It is unknown if this type of medication can cause harm to unborn children.

For nursing moms, it is also unknown if this drug can pass into the breastmilk. Discuss with your doctor all the possible risks before taking this medication.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Flovent HFA classified?

The active component in Flovent HFA is fluticasone propionate, a synthetic corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are a class of naturally occurring molecules that help fight inflammation. Corticosteroids, which reduce inflammation in the airways, are used to treat asthma.

Can I use Flovent HFA as a rescue inhaler?

This medication does not help with asthmatic breathing issues that occur suddenly. Always have a rescue inhaler available in case of an emergency. Notify your doctor if you don’t already have a rescue inhaler.

What is the difference between Flovent HFA and Flovent Diskus?

Flovent HFA is an inhalation aerosol variant that uses a propellant to disperse the drug so that the particles can reach the lungs. On the other hand, Flovent Diskus is a powder inhalation. Both are indicated to treat asthma.
