Glyset (miglitol) is an oral medication used in the management of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), also known as type 2 diabetes.

Glyset is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that works by delaying the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the body. By inhibiting the enzymes responsible for breaking down complex carbohydrates into glucose, Glyset helps to control high blood sugar levels after meals.

Glyset is typically used in combination with a proper diet and exercise program for controlling blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes. It helps to lower post-meal blood sugar spikes and can be taken with other anti-diabetic medications like metformin or insulin.

Use and Dosage

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually 3 times daily with the first bite of a meal. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse (your blood sugar is too high or too low).
