This is a very serious kind of pneumonia that occurs commonly in patients whose immune systems are not functioning normally. These patients may include cancer patients, transplant patients, and patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Store Mepron tablets in a closed container at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Do not freeze. Keep medicine out of the reach of children and away from pets.
If you are under 18 years old or over 60, you may require a dose adjustment to safely take Mepron. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant during treatment. It is not known if Mepron is dangerous to unborn babies. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby before using Mepron. The medicine in Mepron may pass through breast milk and harm a nursing baby. It is important that you have your doctor check your progress at regular visits to make sure this medicine is working for you. Blood tests may be needed to check for unwanted effects.
Some medicines react with the use of alcohol or tobacco and cause unwanted side effects to occur. Talk to your doctor about using alcohol and tobacco with Mepron. If you have certain medical problems such as liver disease or stomach and intestinal disorders, the effectiveness of Mepron may be compromised. Tell your doctor if you have a history of any of those disorders. Mepron may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Use caution before performing any tasks that require you to be alert such as driving.
Patient Family Information : Tell your doctor if you are on a special diet before using Mepron. This medicine must be taken with balanced meals so that it can work properly. Take Mepron with a balanced meal. This is to make sure that the medicine is fully absorbed in the body and will work properly. Mepron tablets can be crushed if necessary to make it easier to swallow. Mepron tablets and oral suspension do not produce the same amount of medicine in the blood. You cannot switch the tablets and suspension and use them in place of each other. If you are using the oral liquid form of Mepron, shake the bottle gently before use. This medication is to be taken by mouth with a specially marked spoon or device that measures exact doses. Do not use Mepron oral liquid after its expiration date. To clear up your infection completely, keep taking your medicine for the full treatment time, even if you begin to feel better.
