Indications

Prinzide is an anti-hypertensive medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

This blood pressure medication combines lisinopril, an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, with hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide-type diuretic to lower blood pressure. Lisinopril inhibits the conversion of angiotensin enzymes in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system which decreases vasoconstriction to lower BP. Hydrochlorothiazide lowers blood pressure by decreasing peripheral resistance and promoting diuresis.

This anti-hypertensive medication has been found to be more effective at lowering blood pressure than either lisinopril or hydrochlorothiazide therapies on their own. Prinzide is generally well-tolerated and supports cardiovascular health by managing hypertension.

FAQ

What should I avoid while taking lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide?

You should avoid drinking alcohol while taking Prinzide because it can lower your blood pressure and cause adverse reactions. When taking Prinzide you should also avoid using potassium supplements or salt substitutes because not doing so could lead to high potassium levels and low sodium levels in your system.

Can I take Prinzide at night?

Yes, you can take your single daily dose at night or any other time that is convenient for you. Some studies have shown an increase in benefits when blood pressure medications are taken before bed, however hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and may cause you to need to urinate after taking your dose. If Prinzide causes you to urinate more frequently, you can take your dose a few hours before bed.
