Topicort Mild Cream 0.05% is a medication that contains a topical anti-inflammatory drug from the cortisone family, specifically desoximetasone, which is a corticosteroid.

Topicort Mild Cream is typically used for the treatment of inflammation and itching associated with various skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash.

Use and Dosage

Use this medication only on the skin. Do not use it on the face, groin, or underarms unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Wash and dry your hands. Before applying the medication, clean and dry the affected area. Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and gently rub it in as directed by your doctor, usually twice daily. Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the area unless directed to do so by your doctor.

After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands. When applying this medication near the eyes, avoid getting it in the eyes as this may worsen or cause glaucoma. Also, avoid getting this medication in the nose or mouth. If you get the medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse with plenty of water.

Use this medication only for the condition prescribed. Do not use it for longer than prescribed.

Inform your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse.

Side Effects

Desoximetasone may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • Burning, itching, irritation, redness, or dryness of the skin
  • Ainy red bumps or rash around the mouth
  • Unwanted hair growth
  • Acne
  • Small white or red bumps on the skin
  • Bruising or shiny skin
  • Red or purple blotches or lines under the skin
  • Thin, fragile, or dry skin
  • Changes in skin color

Serious side effects may include:

  • Severe rash
  • Redness, swelling, oozing pus, or other signs of skin infection in the place where you applied desoximetasone

Children who use desoximetasone have an increased risk of side effects including slowed growth and delayed weight gain. Talk to your child’s doctor about the risks of applying this medication to your child’s skin.


Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.

You should not use desoximetasone if you are allergic to it.

It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks. If you apply desoximetasone to your chest, avoid areas that may come into contact with the baby’s mouth.

Topicort is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. Some brands or forms of this medicine can be used by people younger than 18 years.

Children can absorb larger amounts of this medicine through the skin and may be more likely to have side effects.
