Product Description

This medication is an inhaler used in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

COPD is a progressive lung disease that includes both emphysema and chronic bronchitis. People with COPD experience gradual or worsening shortness of breath over time, with escalating breathing difficulty. This medication works to control symptoms such as wheezing, cough, and shortness of breath while preventing further damage to the airways. By providing symptomatic relief and control, it allows patients to stay active.

The Trelegy Ellipta inhaler includes 3 distinct medications:

  1. Fluticasone
  2. Umeclidinium
  3. Vilanterol

Fluticasone is a corticosteroid that works to reduce swelling in the airways and make breathing easier.

Umeclidinium is an anticholinergic and Vilanterol is a long-acting beta-agonist (LABA); both these drugs are known as bronchodilators. That means that they function to relax bronchial smooth muscles so that they open and allow patients to breathe more easily.

How to Use

This medication comes in two different dose strengths. Your health care provider will determine the most appropriate dosage for you.

This medication should be used once a day, or as recommended by your doctor, and you should inhale the contents of one inhalation.

After inhalation, rinse your mouth with water. Spit out the rinse water rather than swallowing it. Rinsing aids in the prevention of oral candidiasis (thrush) developing in the mouth.

  • To be successful, Trelegy Ellipta must be used regularly. It does not act immediately and should not be used to treat acute breathlessness. If you experience unexpected breathing issues, take your quick-relief inhaler as directed.
  • Trelegy Ellipta is not recommended for the treatment of asthma or the alleviation of acute bronchospasm.
  • Should not be used in children under the age of 18.
  • Should not be used in those with a severe allergy to milk proteins.
