Indications

Zyban is a smoking cessation medicine used to help people stop smoking.

Bupropion is an aminoketone drug that inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine in your brain to increase the availability of these two chemicals. Thanks to these inhibitory actions, Zyban can improve your ability to resist smoking by decreasing your cravings.

Dosage and Administration

The dose of Zyban that is prescribed will vary depending on the individual being treated. Follow all your healthcare provider’s directions of use and read packaging instructions carefully to ensure the best response during treatment. Do not change your dose or suddenly stop taking this medication without speaking to your healthcare provider.

  • Swallow tablets whole
  • Take with or without food
  • If Zyban causes stomach upset, take your doses with food
  • Most adults start by taking 150mg once a day
  • If needed and tolerated, doses can increase after 3 days of treatment to 300mg taken as 150mg twice daily
  • If taking twice daily doses, take your doses at least 8 hours apart
  • You can continue to smoke for the first 7 days of treatment, but you should choose a date during the second week to stop
  • Speak with your healthcare provider if you have trouble stopping smoking
  • Store at room temperature away from children and pets
