Indications

Salofalk enema is used to treat mild to moderate ulcerative colitis and prevent relapse attacks.

Mesalamine is an amino salicylate anti-inflammatory drug that blocks the production of chemicals that contribute to pain and swelling. These actions help reduce the severity and frequency of symptoms like diarrhea, bloody stools, irritation, and swelling of your colon or rectum. When used daily, Salofalk enema helps treat and prevent ulcerative colitis attacks.

Dosage and Administration

The dose of Salofalk enema that is prescribed will vary depending on the individual being treated. Follow all directions given by your healthcare provider and read packaging labels carefully to ensure the best results from treatment. Do not take more or less than prescribed.

  • For rectal use only, do not take Salofalk enema by mouth
  • If possible, empty your bowels before administering Salofalk enema
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before and after use
  • Most patients use Salofalk enema once a day before bed
  • Remove the enema bottle from its packaging without cutting or damaging the bottle
  • Shake the salofalk enema bottle for 30 seconds
  • Remove the cap from the applicator, then hold it with your thumb on its base and your index and second fingers placed around the top of the bottle close to the applicator
  • To administer, lie down on your side with the bottom leg outstretched and the top leg bent
  • Gently guide the lubricated applicator into your rectum as far as you can comfortably go
  • Slowly push the bottle with your thumb to administer Salofalk enema
  • When the bottle is empty, remove the applicator
