Certain medical conditions can cause interactions when taking with Videx. Tell your doctor about any medical conditions you have, especially if you have an advanced HIV infection, kidney problems, liver problems, gallstones, nerve problems, high blood cholesterol or lipid levels, or high blood amylase levels. IF you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant, tell your doctor before using Videx. Videx is harmful to a nursing child, and a mother with HIV should not breast feed. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby before using Videx. Always tell your doctor about any prescription or non-prescription drugs that you are using before taking new medicine. Some drugs can interact when taken together and cause unwanted side effects. Videx has a long list of drug interactions that may occur and be harmful to you. Tell your doctor about the drugs you use before taking Videx EC. If you have a history of heart problems, be sure to tell your doctor before taking Videx EC.
Do not drink alcohol while taking Videx EC. This will cause unwanted effects. Videx EC is not a cure for an HIV infection. Patients using Videx can still get illnesses and infections associated with HIV. See a doctor on a regular basis if you have HIV. Videx EC does not stop the spread of HIV to others. Use barrier methods of birth control and do not share needles, injection supplies, toothbrushes, or razors with others if you have HIV. Do not suddenly stop using Videx EC, even for a short period of time. This might cause the virus to become resistant to the medicine and become harder to treat. A number of lab tests may need to be performed while you are using Videx EC. These tests are designed to monitor your condition and check for side effects. Keep all of your scheduled appointments.
Patient Family Information : Use Videx EC exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Verify the exact dosing instructions by reading the label on the medicine. Take Videx EC by mouth on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after eating. Swallow Videx EC whole and do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. Continue taking Videx EC even if you feel well and do not miss doses. If you miss a dose, take the dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Never take 2 doses at once. Other medicines can reduce the effectiveness of Videx EC when taken together. Ask your doctor if you should separate dosing hours to ensure your medicines are working properly.
Do not use Videx EC if you are allergic to any medicine or ingredient in Videx. If you have pancreas problems, an enlarged liver, abnormal liver function tests, or lactic acidosis, you should not use this medication. Do not take Videx EC if you are also using allopurinol or ribavirin.
