Indications

Accu-Chek Aviva test strips are used to check blood glucose levels in those with diabetes, hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

The blood glucose test strips are designed to absorb smaller amounts of blood to provide more convenient testing. When used with the coordinating Aviva meters, the test strips offer accurate assessments of your blood sugar levels.

Dosage and Administration

The number of times you need to use Accu-Chek Aviva test strips will vary depending on the severity of your blood glucose condition. Follow all instructions provided by your healthcare provider and read packaging labels carefully to ensure the most accurate results.

  • Wash hands before handling test strips
  • Insert Accu-Chek test strips into your Aviva meter with the arrows pointing the device
  • After inserting the strips, the meter device should turn on and beep
  • Store at room temperature out of reach from children and pets
  • Check the use by date on the test strip container before use

To test your blood glucose levels:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and dry them before performing a test
  • Ready your lancing device for use
  • When the test strips are inserted into your device and you see a blood drop symbol flash, prick your finger using your lancing device
  • Gently squeeze the finger your pricked to improve blood flow and get a drop of blood
  • Touch the blood drop to the front edge of the yellow window of your test strip
  • Do not place blood on top of the test strip
  • Your Aviva meter device will beep and flash when the strip has enough blood to test
  • Your blood glucose level results will appear on your meter’s display
  • Use a clean cotton ball to apply pressure to the test site to stop your bleeding
  • After noting your results and the time that you tested them, remove and discard the test strip
  • Your meter should shut off automatically a few seconds after you remove the test strip

Healthy blood glucose levels:

  • Most adults should maintain 4 to 7 millimoles of glucose per litre of blood before meals
  • Adults are recommended to have 5 to 10 millimoles per litre after eating a meal
  • Women who have diabetes while pregnant should have less than 5/3 millimoles per litre before a meal and less than 6.7 to 7.8 millimoles per litre 1 to 2 hours after a meal
  • Follow the blood glucose range recommended for you by your healthcare provider

Cautions

  • Do not use Accu-Chek Aviva test strips with glucose monitoring devices other than the Accu-Chek Aviva, Aviva Expert, Aviva Combo, or Aviva Insight devices.
  • If you do not wash your hands before testing, you may develop an infection in your finger or wherever you test your blood.
  • Frequent blood sugar testing with these Accu-Chek Aviva test strips may result in hardened skin areas on your fingertips. You can soften these areas by using lotion. Speak with your healthcare provider for more advice if this becomes bothersome.

FAQ

Can I use a blood sample from other areas on my body?

Yes, your Accu-Chek Aviva test strips will work with blood from other areas of your body including your palm, forearm, or upper arm. Speak with your healthcare provider to determine alternative testing sites and the benefits of using these areas to test instead of your finger.

How large is the sample size for a blood sugar test?

The Accu-Chek Aviva test strips only require 0.6 microliters of blood to perform an accurate blood glucose test. These test strips are designed to attract blood and have high absorbency with a wide-mouth dosing area on the strip to make it easier to fill the strip with one drop.
