Indications

Zomig is a headache medication used to treat and relieve symptoms of migraine headaches that have already begun in adults.

Zolmitriptan is a serotonin receptor agonist that binds to various serotonin receptors to increase the release of neuropeptides and narrow the blood vessels in your brain. These actions allow Zomig to treat symptoms of an active migraine by narrowing your brain’s blood vessels and combatting the release of neuropeptides that cause inflammation.

Dosage and Administration

The dose of Zomig that is prescribed will vary depending on the individual and type of migraines being treated. Follow all directions given by your healthcare provider and read packaging instructions carefully to ensure the best therapeutic results during treatment. Do not change your dose without speaking with your healthcare provider.

  • Swallow tablets whole
  • Take with a whole glass of water
  • Use Zomig as soon as you notice symptoms of a migraine
  • If your migraine does not completely improve or if it comes back, take a second tablet 2 hours after your first dose
  • Most adults take 1.25 to 2.5mg once or twice to treat migraine headaches
  • Doses can increase if needed and tolerated
  • Adults should not take more than 5mg in a single dose and should not have more than 10mg within 24 hours
  • Contact your healthcare provider if your migraine does not improve at all
  • Store at room temperature away from children and pets
